Walnut Creek Solar Challenge is Starting!

Today is the official community introduction of the Walnut Creek Solar Challenge, partnering with The Ruth Bancroft Garden, and I am delighted to post the email that they just sent out to their supporters. This is their announcement:

We are very pleased to announce a new and unique program which benefits The Ruth Bancroft Garden during the Centennial Celebration for Garden Founder Ruth Bancroft. In keeping with our mission of conservation and education, we have started a partnership with REC Solar called the Walnut Creek Solar Challenge. This is a community solar program which will allow Walnut Creek residents to band together and install solar systems for their houses or businesses at substantial discounts. In addition, each installation will also benefit The Ruth Bancroft Garden, and when our goal of 100 kW by September 2008 is reached, The Garden will receive a 2 kW system of their own at no cost. This will help The Garden save money as electricity prices increase in the future, and also be a wonderful symbol of our dedication to conservation of resources for our visitors.

This program means so much to us that we are offering two free Garden Passes good for a complimentary Docent-led or Self-guided Tour of The Garden to anyone who calls REC Solar to get a site evaluation for a solar installation. For people who participate in the program by going solar, The Garden is offering a free Family Membership good for one year.

We are having a kick off meeting on Thursday, June 26 at 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Shadelands Arts Center Auditorium, and we invite you to attend and hear about REC Solar (www.recsolar.com) and their partner, Sun Run, the only company offering residential Power Purchase Agreements (www.sunrunhome.com). Please come to this meeting to learn about the community discount that is being offered, and to support The Garden, which is repeatedly and deservedly recognized as one of the finest dry gardens in the world. We are thrilled to be able to expand our conservation mandate to include energy as well as water.

All of us at REC Solar are thrilled and excited as we begin this program, and we look forward to meeting you at the kick off meeting. But if you can't wait until then, please call us at 888.OK.Solar (888.657.6527) and we can answer any questions that you might have right now!

You can also visit http://www.wcsolarchallenge.com to sign up for an upcoming workshop. We hope to hear from you soon!
